FIELD
TRAINING -
HUNTING/RETRIEVING
Field classes
Held Spring and late Summer/
Fall. Each session is 6 weeks long (2 hours per class). Classes are held at a variety of training sites to ensure your
dogs are exposed to a variety of terrain/transitions (land and
water). We offer beginner and advanced classes.
Classes are designed for hunters/handlers who want to have
a well behaved field dog. Dogs registering for these classes
must have had 2 levels of formal obedience training or have been
evaluated by one of our Trainers prior to the start of classes.
Level
I
For beginner retrievers to develop their natural
retriever instincts. Handlers are introduced to the principles of
retriever training and are taught how to get their dog steady
and reliable on single retrieves on land and in water. Marking,
forced retrieving/breaking, hold, swimming, exposure to
the gun and birds (pigeons, ducks, pheasants, and geese) are
all covered at this level.
Level
II
For retrievers who know and demonstrate a thorough
knowledge of level I exercises. Dogs are trained for multiple
marks, honoring, and some handling (if the dog AND owner is
ready). Each owner/dog team is advanced at their own level of
progression. Level II is also designed to work with the more
advanced dogs on areas requiring improvement and to get dogs
ready for NAHRA and CKC hunt tests as well as fine tuning
hunting dogs for the fall hunting season.
We also offer
In-Kennel packages that combine Board and Train with private
lessons. All programs require a consultation and
evaluation by our Trainers prior to registration.
